Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) About Krav Maga
The standard monthly membership is $185/per month. This includes all grading and belt testing etc., and all internal seminars. If we bring in external instructors to do some form of specialty training, then students/members of the school pay a heavily discounted rate (and there is no pressure on them to attend these seminars and classes). For current first-responders and veterans the rate is $155/per month.
There are no long-term contracts, though we do ask for a thirty-day cancellation notice. This means that after notification of cancellation, there is usually one more payment that is taken.
This is the only type of membership we offer e.g., we don’t do pay-per-class, or books of classes etc.
Yes, we have weekly sparring classes. These rotate on different days on a weekly basis e.g., one week the sparring class will be on Monday, the next week Tuesday etc. This means that if you are in the habit of training on Tuesdays and Thursdays etc., you will have the opportunity to spar. You are informed/notified when the sparring class is through our booking system.
For new students who are trying out sparring for the first time, we have loaner equipment (shin guards and gloves) that they can use. However, at some point it is expected that they acquire their own equipment, as certain brands and types of equipment are better suited for different builds etc. When you are ready to buy your shin-guards and gloves, instructors at the school can help advise you on the differences. We don’t sell or promote any equipment at the school so we can be completely impartial in our advice of what and where to buy.
In our regular sparring classes, there are no head shots, so you don’t have to worry about concussions or turning up to work the next day with a black eye or cut lip etc.
If there’s a violent situation you can find yourself in, Krav Maga has a solution, this includes finding yourself on the ground, whether against a standing assailant, who is trying to stomp kick your face, or an attacker who has taken you to the ground and is looking to control and submit you etc. One of the focuses that Krav Maga has is being able to survive the ground phase of an assault and get back up to standing. This is referred to as ground-survival. Krav Maga also has a ground-fighting component that looks to finish the fight when it has gone to ground. This includes chokes, strangulations and joint-locks etc.
No, we are a dedicated Krav Maga school. Krav Maga is a comprehensive system which teaches striking, grappling/throwing and ground-work etc., so there is no need for students at Krav Maga Yashir Boston to study other martial arts and disciplines for self-defense purposes etc. If a person wants to train in another martial art, and possibly compete in it, then they are not discouraged from doing so, however when it comes to dealing with real-world violence Krav Maga has solutions for all dimensions of the fight.
Fitness is specific to the activity undertaken. If you are a marathon runner you will have great cardio-endurance, if you are a sprinter, you will be able to “explode” and work at maximum output for a limited amount of time, before needing to recover in order to sprint again etc. Fighting/Krav Maga requires its own specific fitness, and that can only be developed through Krav Maga training. However, fit/unfit you consider yourself, the only way to get fit for Krav Maga is by training Krav Maga. If you don’t require a Dr’s note before exercising you are ready to start training.
