Beginner Krav Maga Classes
Despite the brutally effective nature of Krav Maga we teach the system in an open and relaxed manner which is conducive to learning. Whilst we encourage and work with people
to get the most out of their training, we do this in a positive manner, which doesn’t create performance anxiety, or result in undue stress etc. Our goal is to produce the best
results, and our training methods reflect this. Krav Maga isn’t just about techniques and fighting skills etc., it also has its own teaching methodology, which has been proven
to be highly effective in producing fighting competency in a short period of time. This is why Krav Maga can’t simply be learnt from a book; it needs to be taught and practiced
according to a process. This “process” is not kept secret from those who train at Krav Maga Yashir Boston, and some of the elements of it are explained during our Beginner
Krav Maga classes. If you are interested in taking one of these classes, please use the button below, to be taken to the registration form, which has the dates of the upcoming
classes on it. If you would like to learn more about the class content, please keep reading.

Beginner Class Structure & Content
Our Beginner Krav Maga Classes are structured in a similar way to our regular Krav Maga classes. This gives familiarity to those who decide they want to become part of the school/community, and
allows them to hit the ground running, when they take their first class (Our beginner classes are a pre-requisite for joining the school as “new” members can jump right in without impeding on
existing students training experiences).
In the first part of our Beginner Classes, we look at Krav Maga’s blocking system, using “fighting games”. These are non-injurious games and drills, which allow for the practice of blocking a variety of attacks, strikes and punches etc. We use the same blocks against knives and edged weapons as we do against unarmed attacks, such as punches. This is because Krav Maga’s blocking system is based on instinctive responses to movement, rather than a recognition of a type of attack e.g., if somebody slashes a knife towards your face when you are surprised/caught of guard, you won’t be able to distinguish this attack, from the movement of a swinging punch etc. Your reaction and response will be based off of the movement of the attack rather than its nature. After practicing blocking, movement and control of range in a dynamic manner, we drill these skills and techniques in a “multiple attacker” setting. The important thing to note about fighting games, is the “game” aspect to them.
After blocking, and multiple assailant awareness training, effective striking/punching is looked at and practiced. Whilst everything should be done to avoid a fight, once a confrontation turns
physical, one of the most effective ways of dissuading an assailant from continuing to attack is to cause them main and striking/punching with power is one way to do this. Our striking/punching
method involves utilizing and timing body movement with the extension of the arm. Power is created and delivered using this process, and because it relies on body weight shifting and timing,
rather than muscular strength everybody has the ability to deliver powerful strikes. After striking has been practiced on its own, it is combined with pad-work and fighting games.
The last part of the class looks at the way Krav Maga groups techniques and solutions into families and reuses movements. This use of similar movements to deal with very different attacks and threats, such as a rear strangle attack and a hostage/abduction style knife threat from behind, allows the same basic movement to be practiced when training solutions to both. By training this way there is less time spent learning and more time spent practicing, as each time you are practicing one solution you are also practicing the other.
